Gov. Alex Otti’s Consistent Leadership Anchors Labour Party’s Renewal

The successful hosting of the Labour Party National Convention in Umuahia on the 28th of April 2026 was more than a party event. It was a statement. Under the able chairmanship of Rt. Hon. Ginger Onwusibe the member representing Isialangwa North and South in the federal HOR, the convention produced new party leadership with Senator Nenadi Usman as National Chairman and Rt. Hon. Iheanacho Obioma as National Secretary. But at the heart of this milestone is the consistent, principled leadership of the Executive Governor of Abia State and National Leader of the Labour Party, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.

In an era defined by political opportunism, Governor Otti has remained faithful to the Labour Party. While the political landscape has witnessed a wave of defections by governors abandoning the very platforms that brought them to power, Dr. Otti has stood firm. He chose conviction over convenience. He chose loyalty over political expediency. That fidelity to party and principle has stabilized the LP at a time it could have splintered.

The last two years tested the soul of the Labour Party. Leadership tussles and prolonged legal crises threatened to derail the party’s vision. Yet, Governor Otti did not waver. His record in Abia in less than three years speaks for itself: prompt payment of salaries and pensions, road reconstruction across all zones, transparency in governance, restoration of security, and a renewed sense of pride among Abians. Under his leadership, LP is positioned to deliver victories that will not just be electoral, but transformational — victories that will showcase exemplary leadership for all other political parties in Nigeria to emulate.

The Umuahia convention showed what is possible when competence meets character. Governor Otti’s leadership skills — strategic thinking, fiscal discipline, inclusiveness, and courage — are the same qualities Abia needs to continue on its current path of transformation.
