The Executive Director, National Institute for Nigerian languages ( NINLAN) Prof Ogbonna Onuoha has been applauded for bringing his wealth of experience to bear on the Institution in the short time he has superintended over its affairs.
Two Veteran Journalists – Deacon Uzoma Isiakpu, a retired Permanent Secretary Ministry of Sports and Mr Charles Ifenkwe, also a retired Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information made the Commendation during a courtesy call on Prof Ogbonna Onuoha in his office at Opobo Azumiri Road, Aba.
Deacon Isiakpu and Mr Ifenkwe particularly lauded Prof Ogbonna for attracting TETFUND to assist in the development of NINLAN and for embarking on staff training to keep staff of the institution abreast of modern practices .
The Veteran Journalists and retired Permanent Secretaries who are Public Relations Consultants however urged the Executive Director Prof Ogbonna Onuoha to look into the area of publicity and creation of awareness so that many Nigerians can learn about NINLAN and take advantage of its existence to learn Nigerian Languages.


Briefing the Veteran Journalists and retired Permanent Secretaries earlier, the ED NINLAN, Prof Ogbonna Onuoha revealed that the Institute is charting new courses for the development of Nigerian Languages, for the dissemination of Information about Nigerian Languages,information for the teaching and study of Nigerian languages adding that under his watch the Institute has almost concluded plans to establish Nigerian languages acquisition centres- two centres in each of the six Geo- political zones of Nigeria.
According to Prof Onuoha, the establishment of the study centres is to create outreaches where Consultants, Coordinators and teachers will teach students who enrolled instead of them coming to the Institute’s headquarters for study.
Prof Onuoha also disclosed that the Institute has almost finished working on plan for online study of Nigerian languages so that students can access learning from any part of the country via internet once they register with the Institute. As Prof Onuoha puts it,” even Nigerians in the diaspora who left their languages many decades ago and those whose children can no longer speak their languages will begin to learn from us( NINLAN) through the internet.”


According to the NINLAN boss, the Institute is also working on developing computers on Nigerian languages so that you don’t use the keyboard but new technology on processing of Nigerian languages.
