NWADIALA (BARR.) CHUKWUEMEKA NGOZICHINEKE WOGU Ph.D, CON, JOINS THE SEXAGENARIAN CLUB TODAY, JANUARY 29, 2025

By the grace of God, the Chairman-Designate of the South-East Development Commission (SEDC), Nwadiala (Barr.) Chukwuemeka Ngozichineke Wogu, Ph.D, CON, FNIM, joins the sexagenarian cycle as he turns 60 today, January 29, 2025. Prodigious and exceptionally brilliant, Nwadiala Emeka Wogu Esq has an impressive record of service in both the private and public sectors of the nation’s polity.

The former Minister of Labour and Productivity (April 2010), Supervising Minister of Interior (May 2011) and reappointed Minister of Labour and Productivity (July 2011), Chief Emeka Wogu’s political career berthed early in 1989 when he was elected Assistant Legal Adviser of defunct Liberal Convention (LC) in old Imo State. In 1991, he was elected as the Vice Chairman of Aba South Local Government Area of Abia State under the platform of antiquated National Republican Convention (NRC) and became the Acting Chairman between March – early June 1993. As providence would have it, the young legal practitioner was later in June 1993, made the substantive Executive Chairman of Aba South Local Government Council, a position he held till November of that year when the military struck.

And like a meteor, Barr. Emeka Wogu who holds a Ph.D in Political Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, two Masters Degree in Political Science (Policy Analysis) and Public Administration from Nasarawa State University, Keffi and University of Calabar respectively, as well as a Certificate in Benchmarking, has since been on the upward mobile swing like a shinning star in the country’s political firmament.

Elected member representing Aba North/South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly in 1998, under the banner of Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN), Chief Emeka Wogu was in 1999 appointed as the first Political Adviser to former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu.
Subsequently in 2000, he was appointed Federal Commissioner, Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and reappointed for all second term in 2005. He is one of the longest serving Commissioners of the Commission having functioned for 10 years.

Among other legion of professional associations, Barr. Emeka Wogu is a member of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), International Bar Association, Arbitration and Alternate Dispute Resolution, Fellow of Paul Harris (PHR) of Rotary International, Fellow of Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM) and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Mediators and Conciliation (FICMC). The malveric politician has functioned in various capacities in service to his father land and political party, the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

For time and space constraints, we will only highlight a few of where he in the past served the nation.

At the global stage, Dr. Emeka Wogu led Nigerian’s delegation twice to International Labour Organisation (ILO)Convention in Geneva, Switzerland. He also represented Nigeria at the debate of the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit in June 2019. The theme of the talk shop anchored by Professor Jeffrey Sach in New York, United States of America (USA), was: “Building a New Era of Sustainability.”

On the national scene, Chief Emeka Wogu among portfolios was Chairman, 52nd Independence Anniversary Celebration, Chairman, Presidential Taskforce on NITEL/MTEL Labour Restructuring,2010 and Chairman, White Paper Drafting Committee on the Report of the Petroleum Revenue Special Taskforce, November 2012 (Ribadu’s Committee).

St the party level, the grassroots politician was Chairman, Monitoring and Evaluation Committee of the South-East Peace Project, November 2024, member, Contact and Mobilisation Committee of South-East Peace Project, November 2024 and member, Sub-committee on Contact and Mobilisation of the Presidential Campaign Council of APC in 2019.

A cerebral intellectual, Dr. Emeka Wogu was at different times Guest Lecturer at the Nigerian Defence College (NDC), University of Nigeria, Nsukka, University of Ibadan and National Institute For Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).

Chief Emeka Wogu, the Nwadiala of Aba-,na-Ohazu, has been honoured with many chieftaincy titles from across Nigeria. Some of the chieftaincy titles conferred on him include; Amulutto 1 of Oshogbo, Etiufan Ufot Duke of Duke town, Calabar and Kofar Gusau by the Emir of Gusau, Zamfara State.

Recipient of a plethora of awards which include Distinguished Service Award by Rotary International, October 2011, Ambassador of Labour Award by the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Abia State, November 2011 and Merit Award by the Chinese Community in Nigeria, the SEDC Chairman designate, the proud son of Late Elder Joseph Wogu and his wife, Late Mrs. Nnennaya Wogu, was born on January 29, 1965 in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

A handsome dude, the macho-built golf player is married to his stunning wife, Mrs. Oyabebefa Anita Wogu. The blissful marriage of Emeka and Anita Wogu is blessed with three adorable daughters – Ola, Zara and Ama – and an intelligent son, Chidiadi.

It is fathomable as could be gleaned from his rich and intimidating profile that President Bola Tinubu made a perfect choice in appointing Nwadiala Emeka Wogu the pioneer Chairman of the South-East Development Commission (SEDC).
