FLASH BACK AT SOME MILESTONES OF CHIEF EMEKA NGOZI WOGU, PH.D, FNIM, CON

If image building is all about improving the brand image or public image of something or someone by good Public Relations, then, the crucial role of the media in shaping the public perception of politicians and public figures cannot be over emphasized. This is why the media has always played an important part in informing the public about political figures, their activities and their performances.

As strategic as the role of media professionals in creating and maintaining a positive image and reputation for for public figures is, some unassuming ones who as Lao Tzu opined that: “A leader is best when people barely know he exists. When his work is done, his aim fulfilled…”, quietly do their best without without necessarily interfacing with the media to spread abroad their modest achievements. One such politician and public office holder who felt that his works would speak for him and not media blitz is Chief Chukwuemeka Ngozichineke Wogu, the former Minister of Labour and Productivity and Supervising Minister of Interior.

A member of the finance committee of Tinubu/Shettima Grassroots Independent Campaign Council (TSGICC) as well as sub committee member Contact and Mobilization of the Presidential Council, All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief Emeka Wogu also functioned as Federal Commissioner, Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) for a two term of five years each. He was Abia State representative on the Commission.

At a time like this when questions are raised by the uniformed in some quarters regarding the milestones this silent achiever recorded in the offices he had variously served in the past, it has become imperative for the record to highlight some of them. Space and time will not permit us to enumerate all the achievements of this selfishness leader who has served his father land meritoriously and is still willing to function in whatever capacity he is deemed fit in the future. In both the private and public spheres, Chief Emeka Wogu has made remarkable achievements and indelible footprints in the sands of time in service delivery to the nation and her citizens.

Affable, humble, humane, honest, modest, prudent, and a team player, Chief Emeka Wogu, a patriot who served as chairman of several committees in the past including Chairman Standing Committee on Job Creation, White Paper Drafting Committee on the Report of the Petroleum Revenue Special Task Force, Presidential Task Force onNITEL/MTEL Labour Restructuring to National Council on Privatization, Presidential Task Force on Labour Issues on Power Sector and Committee on the Industrial Relations Situation in the Research Sector to mention but a few, is indeed a service oriented leader of our time.

To his credit as Labour Minister, Chief Emeka Wogu fostered industrial peace and harmony in the country through skillful engagement of Labour Unions and all stake holders on constructive dialogue, initiated the the formulation of the National Policy on Productivity and Regulation on Lifts, Escalators and Conveyors, provided guidelines on Labour Administration Issues in Contract Staffing/Outsourcing in the Oil and Gas Sectors amongst many other achievements.
It was also during his brief stay as Supervisory Minister of Interior that several visa centres were established across the globe, reform in the administration of expatriates quota system was effected, even as he established Nigeria Immigration service Centre at Ụmụahia South L.G.A near the JAMB new office as well as immigration service Centre in Imo state. On two occasions, Dr. Emeka Wogu led Nigeria’s delegation to ILO Convention in Geneva , Switzerland where he represented the country at the debate of the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit.

Detrabalized, Chief Emeka Wogu facilitated the employment of over 400 Abians at the federal level including other Nigerians which the records are there to show. The formal minister equally awarded scholarships to thousands of Abia youths across the 17 L G.A of the state and empowered no fewer than 600 Nigerians. A homeboy, while he served as Federal commissioner, Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Physical Commission, he built a Federal Health centre at Umuogele, Ohanku community, Aba South L.G.A and Civil Hall for his community, Umuogele. In the same vein Chief Emeka wogu built and donated the first Law Library in Nigeria to the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Aba.

For his good works and meritorious service to the nation and mankind, Chief Emeka Wogu has been honoured with many Chieftaincy titles from outside Igbo land and bagged uncountable recognitions. Some the Chieftaincy conferments include: Nwadiala of Aba-na-Ohazu, Onwa of Aba Ngwa, Amulutto 1 of Osogbo, Etiufan Ufot of Duke Town,Calabar and Kofar Gusau by the Emir of Gusau, Zamfara State.

He is a Fellow of the following organisations; Chartered Institute of Mediators and Conciliators, Nigeria Institute of Physiotherapist, National Association of Non-Academic Union, Nigeria Institute of Management and Association of Economic Society among other numerous awards and recognitions.

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), it could be seen from our analysis that Dr. Emeka Wogu, an addicted golf player and avid reader of autobiographies and teamwork, is a performer anytime, any day.
May be, as Arnold Glasow noted, the former Minister of Labour and Interior is taking a little more than his share of the blame, a little less than his share of the credit for being publicity shy.
