ABIA CENTRAL SENATORIAL SEAT; THE NEED TO MAINTAIN THE CURRENT ZONING ARRANGEMENT

All over the world, zoning of political offices in a democratic setting is geared towards achieving inclusiveness and averting political deadlock. Under the arrangement, various factors including religious, ethnic and geographical reasons usually take front seat and consideration. The over all aim is to ensure equity, justice and fair play. Opposite that, you would find marginalization, discrimination and imbalance, which is usually an invitation to anarchy and instability.

Nigeria, with her multi ethnic and multi religious groups is not left out of this political arrangement and consideration, hence the Abia central senatorial seat haven’t been left out of such an arrangement either.

Going down memory lane, it would be recalled that following the return of democracy in Nigeria in 1999, the power brookers in their wisdom sat and took the decision to throw their support for the emergence of Senator Bob Nwanunwho hails from Isiala Ngwa south as the Senator that represented the Senatorial zone. In 2003, the pendulum moved towards Osisioma LGA with Senator Nkechi Nwaogu emerging victorious. She served from 2003–2011 before Senator Chris Adighije who hails from Umuahia south LGA took over the mantle of seat which elapsed from in 2015 Following his inability to secure a second term bid. At that point, It then became the turn of Umuahia North to represent the zone in the Senate following the emergence of Chief T.A Orji in 2015. Having served for a two straight terms of eight years, equity and justice demands that power be moved to ISIALA NGWA NORTH LGA which is yet to take it’s slot in the zoning arrangement.

Suffice it to State here that this arrangement has nothing to do with the clamor or agitation of the people of Isiala Ngwa North for the State Governorship slot to be micro Zoned to the Local government as well, hence the age of Methuselah has nothing to do with the wisdom of Solomon.

This explanations have become necessary owing to the recent cacophony of voices who opine that the Local government is demanding for much, hence they must be reminded that the traditional rotation of power in Abia central Senatorial zone is completely distinct from that of the entire state’s arrangement.

The need for all well meaning members of the zone to maintain the sustainability of this arrangement is to ensure that no Peter is robbed to pay Paul.

As 2023 general elections gradually approaches, it is the duty of all stakeholders, opinion moulders and elders in the Abia central senatorial zone project to maintain the current peace and political stability so far witnessed in the zone by supporting the emergence of an Isiala Ngwa son or daughter to represent the Abia central Senatorial seat in Abuja in 2023.

What is good for the goose is equally good for the gander.
